About Targas from a Porsche Press Release:
The Porsche 911 Targa expands on the concept of the previous model (1996-1997),
which introduced a large power-operated sliding glass roof that slides under the rear
window. The Targa’s glass roof offers a sky view through more than 16 square feet (1.5
square meters) of glass. Operated by two silent electric motors, the 911 Targa’s sliding
roof panel opens the roof by nearly 20 inches (0.5 m), providing an opening of nearly
700 sq. inches (0.45 sq. m.), nearly twice the size of the sunroof opening in the 911
Carrera Coupe. A wind deflector reduces turbulence, and a cloth sunblind automatically
extends out beneath the roof panel when closed. A hinged rear glass panel provides
convenient access to the rear luggage compartment, which offers 8.1 cubic feet of space
(230 liters), compared to 7.1 cu. ft. (210 l.) in the 911 Carrera® Coupe.

Other Comments

The sports exhaust system provides a fuller, more powerful sound via a series of variable-length resonance chambers. There is a switch in the cabin to turn it off, but the deep, raspy growl is addicting.

Anonymous Driver Comment

"In my childhood I can remember seeing a Porsche 911 and thinking this must be a special car. Then as a young man I recall the Porsche TV ads that said, "Porsche, there is no substitute." Now that I'm in my 40's I decided to buy an '03 911 cabrio and find why the 911 has such a loyal following. Driving a 911 is, simply put, a fantastic driving experience. It is incredibly quick and responsive, like a P-51 Mustang on wheels. The engine and exhaust system make such a beautiful sound I usually keep the stereo turned off. It hugs the road and handles exceptionally well. Driving a 911 is truly an experience that's so much fun it sends a chill up my spine. This car practically begs you to drive fast, so watch your speed!
If you want an outstanding sports car and can afford a 911, you owe it to yourself to drive one. You can experience why the Porsche 911 is a legendary sports car."
